+156You know that a South Park episode is good when it causes a lot of controversies. amirite?
When the Sears Tower was renamed the Willis it REALLY upset me, but after you asked that question, I can not answer why. I still call it the Sears and so does everyone else, but it just simply bothers me. Funny though... I have no reason.. I guess simply because the name Sears is iconic to me and the rest of Illinois.
That is correct. Bigben, the bell, will stay the same, butthe tower will be renamed, which I think is crazy. The tower was just called "clock tower" I still think it's crazy.
This is going to come off as rude but I mean it as a totally genuine question - why does it matter to you so much?
I honestly just got all of this info online, and don't really care. It's just slightly irks me.
If you didn't even know what the tower was called before, then who the hell cares? Did it have an actual name? I think naming the tower after Queen Elizabeth is very fitting, and will give the tower itself more meaning and identity. No longer will ignorant simpletons confuse it with its inner rival, Big Ben the Biggest Bloody Banging Bell in Blinging Blighty. Now that's alliteration!
I didn't know this. I didn't know what it was before. I don't really care. Everyone's still gonna refer to it as Big Ben and everyone is gonna know what they mean.
Yeah but those who refer to the tower as "Big Ben" were all wrong anyway, the tower was just the "clock tower" or something, as far as I know it didn't have a specific name of its own. Big Ben is the loud and famous bell that dwells within Elizabeth Tower
First Pluto, then Indigo, now this...the next generation is going to think we're speaking a different language or something in a few years...
What happened to indigo? And Pluto's still called Pluto, it's just not a planet.
It's still a planet in New Mexico.
That's just stupid.
Indigo is apparently no longer a color.
Time for a new rainbow mnemonic then. I still don't know what indigo was. Wasn't it like a slightly purplish blue?
Yeah, in other words, the color of disappointment.
Why didn't you put this in the places topic?
Sorry, fixed.
WHERE IN AMURRICA IS THIS?
This is in London.
This is you not understanding me making fun of idiots.
Facepalm @ Anon
I'm still calling it Big Ben.
I've already said this, but want to make sure you see it in particular - calling the TOWER big ben was always wrong, since big ben is the bell inside the tower. Naming the tower after Queen Elizabeth is simply giving the nameless clock tower a namesake, that's all. So, now you know you've been erroneously addressing Elizabeth Tower as big ben, you can stop worrying about it all.
