Social media over exaggerates things about relationships too much these days. For example, most girlfriends aren't overly obsessed with their boyfriends, and they don't stalk his social life all the time, amirite?

Let me explain: "Exaggerate" itself means to overstate something to excess; or to say something is larger or greater than it really is. Over exaggerating implies that a certain amount of exaggeration is the standard/the norm. Exaggeration is exaggeration...you either represent something to be bigger than it was or you don't.
