Karen Klein (the bullied bus monitor in Greece, NY) doesn't deserve $600,000 in donations. Sure what happened to her was absolutely wrong on so many levels, and she deserved enough money to go on a nice vacation or something, but 600,000 dollars is a bit much, especially when it could go to things like anti-bullying foundations and the like, amirite?
I personally find it infuriating.
Anyone would think she was the first person ever to be a victim of some kids being cunts, not to mention the fact that it was her job to make them not do that, she had actively chosen it as a means of making money.
Yes, it's bad that it happened, and those kids should be crucified, but she does not deserve that amount of money for it.
And yes, I know it is not her fault she is receiving so much money, and yes, what the kids did was wrong, and yes, it is nice that people care so much...but $600,000 is just a lot...
Maybe she'll donate the money herself. She never asked for the money! Hell she could have sued for a lot more but she didn't. So I think she deserves that money and more, not just for what she went through, but for her character.
I know this might sound a bit naïve ... but I saw an interview of Karen Klein, and she is such a caring and gracious woman. I'm sure she will do something to benefit others with atleast some of the money she gets. She seems like that kind of person.
Trust me, I know. I've been bullied most of my life and I agree that it's unfair for only one person to be recieving so much money and attention, but it doesn't upset me that she's getting it. Atleast someone is.
I agree with pretty much everything you said, but I just don't understand why everyone is so mad about how much she's receiving. Yes, 600,000 dollars is alot, and yes, tons of kids are bullied everyday and get nothing. But it's not like Karen Klein has taken money that would have otherwise gone to a bullying charity. I bet some people saw the bus video and decided to donate to a bullying charity, too, we just don't know about it because that's not the kind of thing that is announced publicly. Atleast there is attention being brought to the subject, if nothing else. So is she a hero who deserves 600,000 dollars for being harassed for 10-15 minutes? Maybe not, but she is a good person who didn't deserve to be bullied, and she happened to get lucky. What's wrong with that? I say good for her.
I think of Karen as a symbol for those who are bullied. Many people who are bullied cannot receive this kind if compensation because it happens in the shadows. People recognize this. Giving the money to Karen was like giving hope to all these bullied kids.
Remember, she can't control how much money gets donated. But I do wish that the left over money gets put into some kind of charity or maybe even better security cameras for that bus.
Well, anyone in the right mind will not take what those kid's said as a "joke". her son commited suicide years ago so it's also a sensitive topic for her. Real smooth, Cripsy.
I feel really bad for her, but I was a bit surprised she didn't put those kids in place, she was the bus monitor after all. Of course, no matter what age that kind of bullying is devastating and people react in different ways
Well that is good, but I don't find kind hearts in people who donate to a single person. I find those people bandwagoners who donate to look good in front of people. Maybe I'm just being cynical.
That's a bit harsh, mate. I totally get where you're coming from, but saying that donations for an anti-bullying cause (even if just towards one woman) are "sick" and "absolutely disgusting" is kinda over the top.
It's sad that the autism charities aren't getting more while this woman is getting overcompensated. But I'd choose to label it as highly frustrating, not sick. Not sick by a long shot.
So $600,000 given to someone who didn't do anything to stop it (she could've changed seats, told the bus driver etc) isn't sick? What if they set it up. I bet that some fucked up kids are going to do the same thing in a few years to abuse it. There are people out there who need the money, not one person.
I find hate crimes sick. I find the actions of the Westboro Baptist Church sick. I find pedophiles sick. Do I think that good-hearted people raising money in an anti-bullying campaign are sick? No.
It's really the horrid parenting of this generation, I being a part of it, but I don't see how money can really solve it. It's in our behavior and culture here, and a documentary here and there really doesn't change anything. You think Chinese children are out there, saying terrible things to their supervisors? No. It's not just because of their parents; it's in their culture. They know about filial piety, showing respect to elders, being a good person. No, I don't believe everyone should then act like a quiet, sheltered, introverted person. But, we should get the children to kind of "know their place." Oh, and also, schools don't have the power to do ANYTHING to their students. These children cannot be touched and they've built a strong immunity to yelling and guilt. It seems to me that it's the teachers that are slightly unethical have best control over their class.
The money donated was from thousands of different pockets, and the majority of people who gave a little amount of money, like below $25, would probably have spent that money on a nice dinner or something.
I don't get what the fuss is about. A video went viral and the star got $600k from people who were like "Oh, I think she deserves a break" and gave her a little bit of money. She's not stealing it away from other charities, and she'll probably give some away to charity anyway.
That's bullshit.. It's her job to keep little snots under control and she gets random people, that get nothing from it, to give her over $600,000 for not being able to do her job... it's funny how she gets that while I couldn't even get a damn lawyer, that was going to be paid, to take an assault case for me when I was like 14 and two 19 year olds attacked me over a fucking seat on a bus... Really, America, really?
True, it was her job. She said in a interview that she just gave up since it was the last day of school and there wasn't much point in it. Okay, so you didn't get a lawyer; I'm sorry that happened to you but shit happens. It's not like she has been handed down everything she ever wanted althrough her life. The thing is, Karen, luckily, had someone video-taping it. All of this is just being lucky that someone put it up for her for the public to see.
What happened to me was not only taped but had multiple witnesses that said they would testify on my behalf. It was even on every news channel that runs out of Michigan. Your point?
I don't mean to offend you on any behalf. I'm just saying that's just how the world works. Defenseless little old lady + suicide talk + bitchy kids = a lot more media attention then someone getting attacked on a bus. I'm not saying that's the greatest thing, it's just how the media works. People eat that stuff up and donate like crazy. It's her luck that she got so much pity.
I personally find it infuriating.
Anyone would think she was the first person ever to be a victim of some kids being cunts, not to mention the fact that it was her job to make them not do that, she had actively chosen it as a means of making money.

Here is the donations page, just to validate the amount of money she is getting:

But still, tons of people go through that shit every day. It isn't fair that we pick one person to focus on and give them half a million dollars.
Trust me, I know. I've been bullied most of my life and I agree that it's unfair for only one person to be recieving so much money and attention, but it doesn't upset me that she's getting it. Atleast someone is.
Can I get a link to the interview?
I couldn't find the exact interview that I saw, but this one is basically the same thing

Because you're in the shadows and have no publicity.
I like to think of it as a good thing. Like, people really care, and reach out to one another, you know?
In interviews she said the bullying was everyday. Just wanna point that out.
While some get death/suicide after bullying, she gets a butt load of money...
Remember, she can't control how much money gets donated. But I do wish that the left over money gets put into some kind of charity or maybe even better security cameras for that bus.
Obvious troll is obvious.
Someone trying to argue that laughing about suicide should be taken lightheartedly is clearly trolling or retarded.
Well, anyone in the right mind will not take what those kid's said as a "joke". her son commited suicide years ago so it's also a sensitive topic for her. Real smooth, Cripsy.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't indiegogo donate excess to charity after a certain point?
I have a different opinion, I must be a troll. Can you use logic please and use an account?
It is her fault when you think about it. I don't know why she got so upset about it, the kids were joking around.
She's probably thankful that the kids bullied her now lol.
I feel really bad for her, but I was a bit surprised she didn't put those kids in place, she was the bus monitor after all. Of course, no matter what age that kind of bullying is devastating and people react in different ways
She's donating, apparently: http://www.nydailynews.com/news...icle-1.1101968
And here's an article about why so much money has been raised: http://www.forbes.com/sites/tod...-funding-site/
That is sick. Absolutely disgusting. People do charity events for autism over weeks and only raise 50K, and this girl gets 600K? That is wrong.
^^^this

She's planning on donating, anyway.
I am guessing the majority will be donated to charity

And look, she started an anti-bullying foundation. You should just off yourselves.
The money donated was from thousands of different pockets, and the majority of people who gave a little amount of money, like below $25, would probably have spent that money on a nice dinner or something.

Guys, calm the fuck down.
yeah but if you think about she also does not have that much money to begin with anyway. And she is an old woman, elders should be respected the most
Age =/= respect.
But she's a kind lady. She seems really nice.
That's bullshit.. Yeah, but you're black.
