When someone is against stem cell research, it is usually because they are misinformed and think the stem cells come from aborted fetuses, amirite?

Oh it's cool stuff man. They can grow an ear on a rats back. They can take a heart, remove all the living cells from it so it's just a white frame for a heart, put stem cells on it and put it in a bio generator, and you've got a new heart with your own cells so there's no chance your body will reject it (which happens all the time when people get organ transplants)

Adult stem cells are extremely hard to come by.

@Egotistical eh

Embryonic stem cells - They are harvested from the inner cell mass of the blastocyst seven to ten days after fertilization.

Fetal stem cells - These cells are taken from the germline tissues that will make up the gonads of aborted fetuses.

Umbilical cord stem cells - Umbilical cord blood contains stem cells similar to those found in bone marrow.

Placenta derived stem cells - Up to ten times as many stem cells can be harvested from a placenta as from cord blood.

Adult stem cells - Many adult tissues contain stem cells that can be isolated.

So it always requires a pregnancy?

@Egotistical eh

All adults have them and they've been used more than any other kind successfully.

I do know about the things they can do with it, but I don't know enough about the process. Where do the stem cells come from?

@Egotistical eh

I wouldn't say I'm against it, I just don't know enough about it to support it.
