Yes, they do. And even if they don't make sense or we personally would not want to participate in those activities, it is still consensual. I think it is only wrong when it is not consensual. It might sound weird to you but it is normal for other people. But I agree, some of the stuff in there weirded me out too.
I got it for my kindle. Personally I thought it was no worse than any other romance novel, and I have actually read books that are more explicit. I generally stay away from romance novels because I think they give people false expectations and they get repetitive after a while, but I wanted to know what all the controversy was about with Fifty Shades. When I got to the second book I was getting tired of the sex scenes and wanted it to get back to the good stuff, lol.
I don't even know if I want to read the second book. I was just so fucking creeped out by the whole thing though. It honestly wasn't too bad. Does the second book get any better though? Like I'm only interested if the main dude can actually learn to love.
I mean, it's a romance novel... You can pretty much guess how it is going to turn out. I liked how in the second and third books it doesn't focus solely on them having sex, it involves other things as well. Adds a bit of mystery to it. I wasn't really freaked out just by reading the book, but I would be freaked out if I started dating a guy and he said he wanted to beat the shit out of me in order to get off. I think that part could have been a lot worse than how it was though, it focuses mainly on bondage and not so much on pain.
From what I remember, what happened at the end of the first book is as bad as it got. And the thing is, everything was consensual. And fiction. Lol. After a while I ended up getting annoyed at the overuse of certain phrases. But overall it really wasn't that bad. There are some things I didn't really understand, but nothing that really made me cringe.
That's when I first saw it, I don't know what it's at now. I read them before we got a copy. It's actually been banned in the majority of libraries in my state, but we always try to avoid having to ban books.
I work at a library and we have crazy holds on certain books. Fifty Shades of Grey had around 70 and The Hunger Games had over 100 at one time.

Fifty Shades of Grey has 200 holds at my library. :/
I just ended up reading it online because I have no patience and would feel way too weird buying it.
