No one would vote for a president who's racist, sexist, commits genocide, destroys nature, expects everybody to share his beliefs, and gives brutal lifelong punishments for petty crimes, yet billions of people are content to worship a god that does these things, amirite?
I think you're using semantic arguments. A character in a book can certainly be written to act morally or immorally. Literature explores the theme of moral vs. immoral behavior all the time. The God in the bible can act morally or immorally, just as Raskolnikov can act immorally in Crime and Punishment, or Agnes can act morally in David Copperfield.
And I strongly disagree with your assertion that just because someone knows what's right, that's what they'll do. That's assuming that God cares about doing the right thing, which no one could possibly know.
The point of the post is saying that he DOES do these things which is in fact not loving, and I don't see how anyone can argue that.
@CherryBlossom: Your beliefs are obviously not going to be swayed, and neither are mine, but by making the reference to Hitler, a morally backwards leader who nevertheless got respect from the general public, you're proving my point.
@Logan: Don't forget the ultimate genocide, Noah's Ark.
Yes, perhaps you're right. But the fact that people can be swayed by someone like Hitler sheds a lot of light on why people can be swayed by one of the equally morally corrupt religious Gods.
what the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. God can do as he likes because he's god? So he can be an unloving bastard, just because? I don't want to live in a world like that.
I'm aware saying something doesn't make it true. But the fact is, those things are true. They've all happened, under god's control. And you pretty much contradicted yourself. How can you say we're lucky god is loving, if god can be whatever while he is in fact loving.
@CherryBlossom
So if God said it, it must be true?
If people vote for Obama again they're voting for a President that does/is quite a few of those things.
Half troll (sexism/nature destruction/belief-sharing). But I can make good arguments for the other three.
