But sometimes, people need to be told the hurtful truth so they can face their problems, rather than telling then a little white lie so you don't hurt their feelings, but that lie may lead to their problem becoming bigger later in life, amirite?

Being told your overweight or smoking causes lung cancer and being told you're a bad parent/friend are completely different. People already know if they're overweight or their habits might lead to cancer so you're not helping by patronizing them, whereas people aren't always aware that they're a bad parent/friend.
