Your eyelid would probably start twitching madly if someone told you "you make a good and valid point, but I still feel the need to stick to my original opinion", amirite?
My goal in a debate usually is not to change someone's mind. It's to show that their reasoning is stupid. At the point that I do, I don't really care what happens next. They can continue to hold on to their opinion with the notion it's unreasonable, or they can just abandon it. Whatever happens, I don't really care.
I couldn't care less if they change their minds or not. It's annoying to me when they realize their reasoning is invalid and wrong and someone else is right but they stick to their guns anyway just cuz because it's annoying to me when people chose to continue being ignorant or stupid or wrong or a combination of the three.
