+172 It's kind of odd how some religions don't celebrate birthdays. They aren't technically religious. It's nice that people acknowledge the day you were born and is definitely something to be celebrated. amirite?

I think it's because birthdays were origianally a Pagan celebration.

I don't know, I think celebrating birthdays is weirder than not. "The Earth is in the same position in reference to the sun as it was on the day your mother pushed you out of her, let's set fire to stuff and put it on a cake so you can blow it out."

I'm not sure about other religions, but my friend who's a Jehovah's Witness told me they don't celebrate birthdays because they try to strictly follow the Bible and birthdays aren't in it.

Yeah I'm not really sure, just going off what my friend told me.

My grandma is a Jehovah's Witness. They don't celebrate birthdays or Christmas because they don't want to worship false idols. In their view gathering around someone to give them presents and treats is a bit like worship, even if it is just for a day. I even knew some JW kids at school who couldn't sing the national anthem at assemblies for that same reason. (I think their confusing "celebrating" and "worshiping". I buy you gifts on your birthday because I'm "celebrating" the anniversary of your birth, and that you've made it another year. But that's just my opinion.)
