I actually think it's okay to get a meaningless tattoo just because you want one, but if you're going to get a symbol, like a Chinese character or a yellow ribbon, you should figure out what it stands for first so you don't look like an idiot.

i have a japanese tattoo & i knew what it meant before i got it because i'm learning japanese. so nobody's allowed to hassle me about it! o.o
