You don't understand why nuns and priests live as abstinent; if God didn't want women and men to sexually interact, he wouldn't have designed women and men to be attracted to each other or created the act of sex. Also, the act of sex is what creates children, which is what God wants us to do - so why would he forbid it? amirite?
It's because they're married to God.
Yes polygamy is a sin, but the marriage isn't a typical marriage. You're not going to have sex and kids with God because He isn't a human
God didn't have sex with Mary. The Holy Spirit performed a miracle that left her pregnant but still a virgin
And if you're not religious that's going to sound completely ridiculous.
Alright, I understand the reasoning behind that, but still stand by my point.
@eastcoast who's this jesus guy if god doesn't have sex with humans?
I'm not and it does.
I also think trading your daughter for penis tips is ridiculous but you know, that's just me
Found in: 1 Kings 18:25-27
Before Byron, before Casanova, there was David. Young and in love, David desperately wants to marry Saul’s daughter Michal and offers Saul anything he wants to let him marry her. What could Saul possibly want? Money? A vow of love? No. Saul wants foreskins. 100 to be exact. Why? Who cares. If you want my daughter, you’re going to have to find 100 foreskins by tomorrow. David finds this odd, but then again this girl is hot, so he goes out and kills 200 men, and collects their foreskins. It’s only then he remembers that he only needs 100 foreskins. Oops. Oh well, maybe if he hands over twice as many foreskins, Saul will be doubly as impressed. Indeed he is and duly hands over his daughter to David.
The moral of this story? Never be ashamed to do crazy things for love.
Thats what I thought
So, God is technically 'married' to more than one person, right? Isn't polygamy a sin in the bible?
I think you'll find a good explanation of part of your point here:

Thanks, I'll check it out.
You clearly didnt think this through. I don't know why they do it, but with that logic why would anyone want to be abstinent? It could be a personal choice.
Jesus never married, and the 12 Apostles didn't bring their families when they followed Jesus, so priests don't marry because they are the descendants of the 12 Apostles. Also, priests should devote their time to running the Church they preach to and doing God's work on earth, so they wouldn't have much time for a family. Nuns don't marry because they are the "Bride of Christ", and they spend their life doing good for his Church.
