The outfits on the runway are overly dramatic; their only purpose is to make an impact on potential distributors and consumers. No one actually considers wearing them as they are. That's why, if the runway versions go over well enough, the designers alter the designs and make them far less drastic for everyday use. They'll usually sell the pieces separately as well, so they don't look as costumey as the first example (the three main articles would each look decent and make sense without the other two). Which is why you never actually see this kind of shit on the racks. It's been made more subtle.
Wow, I never understood why everything on runways were so ridiculous looking. This makes so much more sense. So basically designers make everything outrageous just to grab the attention of people, then dumb it down.
that still doesn't make any sense to me. Why not just show the clothes you are going to sell? Especially if the drastic versions just freak people out.
Those drastic versions are usually to catch the public's eye. My cousin works in the fashion industry (she is the one that sketches the runway models' outfits so the designers know what to dumb down later) and she told me that the company already knows that no one will buy clothes as gaudy as they put out on the runway, but they do a pretty good job of getting peoples' attention so they start looking more into what else that certain brand has to offer, including the clothing that is actually wearable.
The outfits really aren't that bad if you alter them a little bit, because some of the individual pieces of clothing are actually quite nice.
Here's how I think the outfits can be "fixed":
Outfit #1: Pair that long sleeve jacket with a pair of skinny jeans and pop of color shoes like rust colored pumps.
Hair: fishtail braid
Outfit #2: (couldn't think of anything better than this because that outfit is just crazy no matter what you do to it) Take off the circles on the elbows, put on some black tights put a black trench coat over the current outfit and pair with some black ankle boots
Hair: straight and sleek long ponytail
Outfit #3: Pair the silver metallic pants with an oversize v-neck black top and some simple black pumps.
Hair: long and straightened with blunt bangs
Outfit #4: Tuck a button up peasant sleeve blouse (short sleeves not long) with a collar into the skirt and add a thin belt and a pair of slingback heels
Hair: a simple undo
The outfit all the way on the left isn't bad. Maybe the fur shawl is over-kill, but you could pair that with something else. Even the hair wouldn't be bad without all those bows. I can't say the same for the other three.
its actually not to 'grab attention', fashion design is an art form like any other. these are examples of couture, which is what the designer dreams up, their 'art'. clothes you buy are 'ready to wear' and they are made to fit the current trends and be more practical. they are two separate things.
The point of fashion shows is to exaggerate the concept of the current season's styles. So nobody buys them.
It all makes sense now.
When I first saw the second girl's elbows, I thought it was digitally zoomed in on them.
I thought you said "eyebrows" at first and I stared at her eyebrows for the longest time before deciding to reread your comment.

Your exactly right, the real point of the fashion shows is also to show designers what kind of style and clothes are 'in' for the season.

It looks like something people from the Capitol would wear.
I was getting ready to say the same thing! Haha
Dude I could be a fashion designer. Just take a random piece of clothing from each area of a store.
I do.
Every single one of them.
The outfit all the way on the left isn't bad. Maybe the fur shawl is over-kill, but you could pair that with something else. Even the hair wouldn't be bad without all those bows. I can't say the same for the other three.
I own all four of those dresses.
I did "Search google with this image" and the results for "lady gaga in meat dress" popped up.
OMG i didn't know about "search google with this image." GAH! SO COOL
wow, that takes stalking pictures to an entire new level. i love it.

People with class maybe.
Oh yes. A bikini top with a matching skirt and white cowboy boots is so classy.
