+221 It's strange to think about people from the 1400s seeing themselves the way we see ourselves now. Like, we see teleportation as impossible in the same way they saw speaking to someone half way around the world in real time (telephone) as impossible, amirite?

Why would that be strange?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Because it's so natural for us that thinking of someone seeing it as weird feels strange.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Because no matter what era they're from, people see themselves as most on top as they could possibly be, despite the fact people are always discovering.

B10ck: That doesn't feel strange to me, because I can recognize that everything we have today is an incredible achievement, and certainly not normal. Colebowl: Again, I simply don't see it that way. Obviously there's many more advancements coming, and we're definitely not at the peak of our civilization. -- Sorry if I came off as obnoxious, I wasn't intending to, but it seems to me like it sounds that way.

If you don't see it that way, how is not strange to you that practically every other human does?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Well if practically every other human does see it that way, I definitely see that as a strange. But that's not what the post is asking if I feel strange about.

The post is asking if it's strange that everyone thinks that...

What I see as strange is that practically every other human sees their current civilization as most on the top as they could possibly be. I don't see teleportation as literally //impossible// just something we haven't achieved yet. So people from the 1400s seeing telephones in the same way as I see teleportation isn't strange to me.

The post is supposed to be about that first part, the thing about phones and teleportation was just an example.

I guess I'm sort of arguing what your post means, which doesn't make sense considering you're the one who created it, but as for the first part of your post it just doesn't seem odd to me that people from the 1400s seeing themselves the way we see ourselves now.
