+212 Taking money and funds away from the school systems that educate our children, and thus our future, should never be considered a solution, amirite?

Privatize education.

why would that work better? i'm actually very interested in this avenue but people always counter the poor couldn't afford school

I think government funding is good (for that reason) but that the government should stay out of the system itself

Privatizing education would bring competition to the public. Schools would compete by being cheaper, higher quality, etc. The government could still provide vouchers to needy families. And I personally believe that private schools would promote children to think for themselves... "Governments don't want a population capable of critical thinking. They want obedient workers; people just smart enough to run the machines and just dumb enough to passively accept their situation." -George Carlin. I can't really remember any teachers telling me to think for myself. There may have been one or two in high school, but for the most part, teachers lecture to their students to sit, behave, and don't question authority.

Because No Child Left Behind has done wonders for the educational system

I went to one of the wealthiest high schools in the state. We had all kinds of technology we never used and some of the dumbest students I've ever met.

The students may be dumb, that doesn't mean that the test scores are dumb.

This is so stupid. How could you say it's never an option? More money doesn't mean better results. What if public education was taking up 50% of the budget? 90%?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

More money is better than no money. Or an average budget.

Mind you, I didn't say it should never be an option, but it shouldn't be a solution. I believe there's a difference there.

Throwing money at something isn't going to help...

Tell Dalton Mcguinty that.
