For all we know the north probably already had a war on 'who plagiarized who' with aliens. No one knows what goes on there after all.
It'd be like an intergalactic version of the current china v japan battle. The aliens would be like "no, no Korea, when we said you could have our language after WW2 we didn't actually mean it literally."
I can read Korean so I can't see the crop circles. ): I can't stop seeing "Hello."
The first symbol looks like a guy watching TV and the second symbol looks like a guy sitting at a desk upside down
If you are interested the first symbol says 'an' and the second one says 'nyeong'. From the original picture, third one says "ha" 4th says "se" and 5th says "yo". Together it makes "Annyeonghaseyo" which means "Hello" in a polite way. As you have the picture there it says just "annyeong" which would be how you say hello to a close friend or to someone younger than you (like an adult would say annyeong to a child but the child would say annyeonghaseyo to the adult).
That seems like quite the mouthful for "hello".
Koreans say it very quickly and takes no longer to say than hello. If you were trying to say hello really politely (actually this is more formal) you'd say annyeonghashimnikka (안녕하십니까).
As someone who can read and understand Korean, I urge you all to give it a try trying to learn how to read the language. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at not only how easy it is to learn how to read and write but just how clever and useful the writing system is.
. . . You mean, Samsung did the same thing to Apple
I'M JUST NOT SURE WHO TO BELIEVE
Who's side are you on ?
He's on the side of jesus
What if I told you no one did anything... now you have 3 options BUT WHICH WILL YOU CHOOSE
NOW WE'RE JACKASS.
I feel like now's a good time to say 'OPPA GANGNAM STYLE'.
It is a contraction of 오빠 + 는 (oppa + neun), which becomes 오빤 = Oppan.
SHHHH I WAS CLOSE ENOUGH.
Actually oppa means goat testicles in korean
Apa was a fucking boss. Yip yip mother fucker
Appa* but that isn't really a contraction of two words, so I got nothing.
Potd AND homepage in the same day.
Someone find me some peanut butter, because it sounds like somebody is jelly.
AND ANOTHER POTD!!
I know the op probably didn't mean it that way, but as a Korean I'm a little insulted. The history of the Korean language is a very powerful and sad story, in which Koreans fought for their own language after being oppressed by many other countries. After centuries of being forced to use other languages like Japanese and Chinese, Korea finally created their own language. And now it's jokingly being called 'plagiarized'? That's really not funny to me at all.
You just seem kinda butt hurt to be honest, it was only a joke.
You must be from North Korea.
But they're on the internet
I feel like this post isn't serious since it takes alien crop circles into account. And OP said that's what aliens would think, not that he thought that.
You must be fun at parties
You have confirmed my belief that people can get offended by literally anything.
He never said anything remotely close to that.
Idk why people are so mad at you for this. I myself am not even Korean, and I still cried a little when I saw this post.
Why's everyone getting so mad at him for saying that? He just said that he gets that it's a joke, it just isn't funny to him and he's a LITTLE insulted. Not a lot, a little. If he had gotten really angry then that would make sense, but all he's doing is calmly sharing his opinion on the potd
I can't believe these people being such cunts to this guy. I've never seen such hate and childish behavior on this site before. Like, wow. These kids need to grow up.
There wasn't that much hate. Sure some people attacked him, but most of us just explained why we didn't think there was anything wrong with that, not that he's an idiot and he should die.
Your comment was fine, you're good, but the majority of the other people were being pretty douchey.
The main reason they're being douchey too him is mainly due to us seeing someone like that as either being a troll or a Buzz Killington.
While I do get how they could be insulted, there was absolutely no way or idea that someone was meaning to insult their language.
No one went "Hey, they'll be insulted if I put "korean language" and "plagiarized" in the same sentence!"
As we've already seen, there are plenty of Koreans that take this how it was intended: a joke. Not an attack on Korean language.
again, I totally get how they might be insulted but they're getting negative feedback because they look like a huge Buzz Killington.
Nobody said you can't joke, he said "I find this a little insulting, and I don't find it funny either". That's it. Does he not have the right to be insulted? Are you telling him he can't have feelings?! You say you have constitutional rights to joke a little, yet you don't want this man to have freedom of speech? I would fuck your mother with the constitution if it meant this guy could say he was offended. Don't you go waiving your rights around and then try to tell others not to exercise theirs.
