-77 Fade out endings are for lazy artists, amirite?

As long as they don't all fade out. If every song fades out, it's lazy. If every song ends suddenly, this is also a form of laziness. Just vary your endings (some of them can definitely be fadeouts) and you will be fine.

Disagreed with your second sentence. I think it's always a challenge to end your song on a single beat successfully. However, fade-outs can be used artfully.

this is a valid point, I will give you that. But it can get annoying to hear ONLY songs that end on a single beat, with no variety, is what I am saying. I will, however, revise what I said: it is not a form of laziness, just a lack of compositional variety

Most of the songs I listened to when I was younger had fade out endings, so I thought all songs went on forever because I never heard a definite ending.

I personally am not a fan of fade-out endings... I feel more satisfied after listening to a song if I've heard a definite ending. But that's my personal opinion, and it doesn't make fade-outs lazy.

Though outmatched, I've always felt this way about fade-out song endings
