Drug tests should be mandatory to receive welfare since they are mandatory for employment, amirite?

They should be mandatory for welfare anyway.

...what?

I'm pretty sure my governer tried this (Rick Scott), and it was a huge waste of money. I'm pretty sure less than ten percent of the test came back positive.

That's why I NW'ed. I agree with the concept but only like 3% were actually positive, and they're too expensive for such a low number.

I am so damn tired of this stupid idea that "poor= lazy drug addicts". This country demonizes poor people as having flawed characters, but never considers we have an economic system made to keep many people at the bottom. I had a 39 hour a week job, which is nearly full time, and I still couldn't make it. Unless people are on welfare for physical or mental disabilities, most people who get things like food stamps are working as well. What you need to realize is how ignorant your assumptions are. It's not the case that many or even most people who receive help are abusing the system. They need it to even meet basic necessities because minimum wage does not cut it with $4, gas, high mortgages, no health coverage, soaring food prices and a family. By the way, the assholes in who were so for people to be drug tested for welfare passed a law that it was unconstitutional to test them. How many government officials do you suppose are popping illegal scripts or doing Coke? A much higher percentage than the people on welfare, I'd bet my life on that. So, please reconsider your judgments and see reality.

You assume too much.

While it's true that not all poor people are lazy drug addicts, it's also true that almost all lazy drug addicts are poor. This means that a poor person is more likely to be a lazy drug addict than a wealthier person.
Drug testing welfare recipients really wouldn't hurt people the hard working people who don't abuse drugs. It would help to weed out the people who abuse drugs make a lifestyle out of living off unearned wealth.
