+159 You don't realize how dire it is to do your best in school until you start looking at colleges and their admission standards. amirite?

I know dire can be used to mean urgent or desperate, but every time I read this I keep thinking you've used it wrong here...I think you need a word like "need" after it to reflect the urgency..."You don't realize the dire need to do your best in school until...". Dire on its own usually means dreadful or terrible.

At least you know what I'm trying to say.... I realized after I posted this that I could have used a more appropriate word but I didn't. Oh well.

Yeah you're right, I think everyone will get exacty what you mean. I've been an English teacher abroad for too many years so I immediately notice stuff like that, hahahaha. Sorry.

No need to apologize if you're right. I totally respect that you're trying to help people out with the use of their vocabulary.
