+56 It's makes no sense when people go "well your ancestors were illegal immigrants" to Americans who are against illegal immigration as a reason for why they shouldn't be. Native Americans had no laws against colonials being there, colonials weren't illegal immigrant and why would your ancestors doing something illegally mean you shouldn't be against the crime they committed? amirite?

Technically not illegal but really that's like saying cavemen didn't murder each other cuz the definition of murder didn't exist back then.

No, it's more like saying cavemen weren't doing anything illegal when they murdered because there were no laws against murder. Saying cavemen didn't murder cuz there wasn't a word for it is like saying colonials weren't immigrants (legal or not) because they didn't have a word for immigrating.

How were the Native Amricans supposed to know their land was suddenly about to be invaded? And even if they had laws, it's not like the colonials would pay attention to them.

Obviously they wouldn't, no country ever expects that. That's irrelevant. Even if they did have laws, colonials probably wouldn't have listened to them. But they didn't have laws, so that too is irrelevant.

I'm pretty sure they had laws against murder, rape, and land stealing seeing has how they were a civilized culture and those things are pretty frowned upon by most nations. And your argument sucks, it's like saying "well slavery was fine because there were no laws against it in africa".

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I didn't say "it's fine" In no way do I think it's OK to do something just because there's not a law against it. The only thing it's like saying is "slavery in Africa wan't illegal" That doesn't mean you think slavery is good or bad, it means slavery wasn't illegal. I see no connection between murder and rape to the context of my post, I'm not even going to argue that point.
