I guess my problem is with "In order to judge…" Perhaps **before you judge...** would work for me. I any case **Don't Judge** is best. Yoda said it and so did Jesus, it is a central tenet in most religions, and most atheists I have meet agree that judging others is undesirable. But I see where you are going here and I like the idea of examining a persons “road” to get to understand their beliefs and I try not to judge them "before" that or //after//.
