+184 It's irritating and makes no sense for people to say if you're not 18, don't talk about the election; everyone is entitled to an opinion. I'm sure these people talked about getting a car before they had a licence, amirite?

I hate it when people talk about how they don't care, or they hate both candidates. I'm 17 now, so I won't be able to vote in any elections for a year. Still, I want to be sure my opinions are my own by the time I start voting, and the only way to really ensure that is by researching things myself and learning as much about the issues as I can right now.

A good way to "research" is to listen to all opinions ... not just the ones that support your present views ... be open, be objective ... there is NEVER one party that is right on ALL issues, they all have valid (and sometimes agreeable points and positions) ... when you have heard and weighed them all up, don't be scared to vote for the one who ticks the most important boxes ... it might even surprise you!

The people who say that are probably going to be the people who won't vote when they're of age.

I agree. Most teenagers are going to able to vote in the next election they witness (except 13 years olds; they'll be 17), and developing a healthy interest in the welfare of one's country should begin at a young age so that one can become a well informed voter when able to vote.

And most politically active teenagers know more about policy making than around 90% of the electorate

And why do we have to care about other peoples opinions?
