+80 It's depressing to think that you could invent something revolutionary one day and have it be obsolete within your lifetime, amirite?

If I'd earned a load of money in royalties from the revolutionary invention, I think I could cope with it being made obsolete just fine.

How? Just because it is obsolete doesn't make it any less of an important technological advance. If I were an inventor I would think that I would appreciate any advancement made to technology.

I didn't say that it isn't an achievement and that you wouldn't be happy, but it wouldn't make you sadder that what you did isn't very important anymore?

Depending on the invention. Think how long people have been using forks with very few changes made.

Yes, but I forgot my original example, but let's say skateboards were invented 2 months ago by you. New thing, hip and happening, kids and their mothers want this in their system they love it so much. 3 years later, a hoverboard comes out. What did you make again? I think I had one of those, I can't remember.

Well if you invent it, you needed it and it helps for the time being. That seems to be the world now short life for every trend.
