Jesus Christ, have we really resorting to fight about Disney princesses. How important is this to you people? I think the important thing here, is that I would easily have sexy time with the majority of them!
Good luck doing that with Ariel.
Someone should make an Ultimate Showdown version of the Disney Princesses... Anyone in?
I really enjoyed seeing that picture. Love these movies so much
I chose this picture because of the dresses that the princesses are in. Cinderella is in her original silver gown. Aurora is in her blue dress for a change, Ariel is in my favorite dress of hers (the one she wears when she transforms into a human at the end of her movie), Mulan us in my favorite dress of hers, and most importantly, Rapunzel isn't distorted because she's her original computer animated self.
Thanks for the explanation! I was like "When did Ariel wear that...?"
For some reason I can't reply to the comment thread, but technically Mulan isn't a princess, but she is part of the Disney princess.
(I also personally believe Nani from Lilo and Stitch should be a Disney princess, but I guess she wasn't really the main character.)
She doesn't meet the requirements.
Are there certain requirements? Can you link them?
Not because I doubt what your saying, Nani wasn't really the main focus of the movie, I'm just curious.
Of the ten movies these Princesses are from, somehow I've only seen six of them...
Which ones?
Not including any sequels, I've seen Aladdin, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Mulan, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and The Little Mermaid.
Does anyone else hate that they gave Cinderella and Aurora weird new bangs (not in this picture, but in lots of newer pictures)?
Yes! They changed a lot of the princess' features for merchandising. Cinderella's hair is supposed to be more reddish, like a strawberry blonde , but they made her completely blonde. I think they also made Jasmine's eyes bigger and made Ariel look older.
No. I'm not quite sure why. She meets all the requirements. Her love interest is Phoebus, she has a goat, and she sings "God Help the Outcasts".
wait a minute, Mulan and Pocahontas, to the best of my knowledge, aren't princesses. I don't think Disney understands what a princess is, because its not being female.
Mulan and Pocahontas were their cultural equivalent to princesses.
Now i'm no disney expert, but i'm calling b.s., Mulan wasn't the equivalent, because she wasn't the daughter of an emperor, nor did she marry one.
Yeah, but she was the daughter of a warrior. Had her father been the emperor she never would have been able to take his place. That's as close to a princess as the story could get.
being a princess requires you to marry into, or be born into, a ruling family/monarchy/dynasty. Simply taking your parents place doesn't make a princess because every child does that. All i'm saying is that Mulan is in no way a princess. Unless being a princess means being a female lead in a disney movie.
True, Mulan isn't technically "royalty", but she was born into a wealthy, noble family. Her dad was a warrior, and have you seen her house? Not exactly something a peasant would live in. She also married Shang, a captain of the army. Shang's dad was General.
o.k. All of those things are true, but none of them are what actually make a "princess." I'm sure wikipedia would back me up on this. But listen, i'm beyond the point of caring, so whatever lets chalk this up to "disney magic."
Wikipedia will also say that Mulan is a Disney Princess. So there.
I meant Wikipedia would back me up on the definition of what a princess actually is.
Wikipedia will back me up on the definition of what a Disney Princess actually is.
And the wikipedia about monarchy's and royalty, and lineage, the dictionary, the royal family, and a thousand years of real history and precedent would back me up. All i am saying is that Disney doesn't know what princesses are. Simply calling something a goat doesn't make it a goat. There is no real rhyme or reason to their princess thing, if it was by your definition than that chick from notre dame would be on here, but you yourself pointed out she is not. sooo, Pointless conversation prolonged, your move!
Have you even watched a Disney movie? Being a Disney princess isn't about status or what part of society you were born in. Being a Disney princess is about doing whatever it takes to make your dreams come true, listening to your heart, being kind, caring, and brave. Mulan fits perfectly into this. She's a good example to younger kids. So who cares what her status in society is? Does that really matter in retrospect?
All i'm saying is that if Mulan were made by any other company, and that company decided to call her a princess, than we would all be severely confused because she is not actually a princess. Lets be real, Mulan is kind of anomaly in the Disney universe, she's probably on this list because it makes marketing easier. however, to answer your question, it doesn't really matter, i'm just perplexed by the phenomenon.
I think Pocahontas wasn't a "princess" but she was like the princess of their village... she was the chieftain's daughter, right? So that's like being the princess, sort of.
These are the 10 official Disney Princesses. Go look it up if you don't believe me.
The requirements to be considered a Disney Princess:
1. A human girl who has a love interest
2. She sings in her movie
3. She has animal friends.
Mulan's love interest is Shang, she sings Refelction and a line in I'll Make A Man Out of You, and her animal friends are crickey, the lucky cricket, Khan, her horse, and Mushu, her dragon gaurdian. So there.
lol, I did... and what the hell? Isn't it also a little counter intuitive to call Mulan a princess, because, wasn't she made to break apart from the Pampered "man dependent" princess's of the past. Disney needs to learn how monarchies work.
Actually, any Disney Princess (or any Disney female, for that matter) of the Disney Renaissance(1989-1999) is drastically different than the ones from the 50's. Consider Ariel and Cinderella. Or Jasmine and Snow White. Or even Alice and Esmerelda.
Mulan wasn't made specifically for the reason of giving Disney Princesses a new reputation. She is based on an old Chinese poem called Hua Mulan. Robert D. San Souci suggested that Disney turn the poem into a movie.
I think that if you invent a fiction you really get to have a pretty big say in the definition of words within your universe.
You know what I just remembered? Belle isn't technically a princess, either because she never married prince Adam. Everyone just assumes she did.
