+68 Giving someone a compliment that starts out "You did a great job" and ends with "but you didn't do it like I would have" is not a compliment at all, amirite?

It's constructive criticism. It's a technique a lot of employers and teachers use. You start by saying something they did well and then say something you would have liked them to improve on. Sometimes they end it with another thing you did well.
