+61 Though resolutions are often broken there is still some value in hopeful thinking, especially at the dawn of a new year. Working towards a goal, even if we fail, allows us to exercise a measure of control in our lives upon which we can build and improve. Though our diets may not last we still flex our willpower if even briefly instead of consigning ourselves to fat, which is worth something, amirite?

Nope, if you can't fulfill your resolution, you've gained nothing. There is no value in "hopeful thinking". The world around you only cares about physical results.
