+100 Russia's newly adopted policy to stop allowing U.S. citizens to adopt Russian orphans is a bitter, selfish, and cruel thing to do. Most of the orphans will otherwise likely not be adopted, and life a very difficult life, amirite?

Why did they do that?

It was a vengeful response to the American policy known as the Magnitsky Act, which served to punish Russian officials guilty of corruption who were never punished in Russia. It works only if they have a bank account in American dollars. If they do, the act states that the United States has the right to confiscate the savings of that account to serve as the punishment the guilty officials never received. In response, Russia enforced this act, while trying to pass it off as necessary under the excuse that, in the last (I forget exactly how many years, maybe 20, maybe 60) years, 19 Russian children (out of many, many thousands) died as a result of neglect by the American foster parents. Even in Russia, the Magnitsky Act (the American one which punished Russian corruptors) has frequently, if not mainly, been met with gratefulness by the general Russian public

It's really immoral. It's the equivalent of a kid getting so mad at being grounded when he thought he'd get away with it that he punches his baby sibling in the face

Is it just US citizens specifically, or is it any citizenship other than Russia?

Just U.S. so far
