It'll be nice that for the month or so between the pope resigning and a new one being elected, there'll be no one on earth that claims to be infallible (at least no one that is taken seriously by so many), amirite?
there's this man who's been put in jail
but he's still controlling this whole society from his cell
him and I think his posse pretty much decide who's getting married to who and if they can have kids or not
and they have little kids working adult hours (even more)
and they only have so many hours of school
and the government doesn't regulate this society
and they're taught in school that he's the president of America (jail guy)
and the "history" they're taught in class is a bunch of fiction
better yet
I found the episode on the abc website
now I don't know if the abc player works in England
but at least you'll have the title and a short summary
The ABC player app isn't available in the British app store so it doesn't look like I can watch it officially but I can probably find the episode to stream elsewhere now that I know which episode it is.But if not,I still have the summary as you say.So thanks!
I don't have one at the moment until mine gets fixed and I don't have access to one.I'll check as and when I've got one in front of me just to make sure but when an American streaming app isn't in the UK app store,it's usually because of copyright reasons so the site would be no different. It's ok though.I'll find it somewhere.
The pope doesn't just claim to be infallible all the time. If he said that pancakes are better than waffles, that wouldn't mean that it was true or that he was claiming it to be true. He is infallible on the subject of faith and morals and, throughout history, popes have made few and far between ex cathedra statements (doctrines that are infallible). It's not like the pope is claiming new things that he thinks should be true on a daily basis. I'm a catholic and he doesn't affect my life on a daily basis, so if you're not a catholic, which I don't think you are since you made this post, I'm sure he doesn't affect your life all that much.
True,ex cathedra statements are rare. But it wouldn't make any difference to me if nothing had ever been solemnly defined throughout the whole history of the catholic church. My issue is with the fact that claiming to be god on earth is - aside from being potentionally dangerous - just about the most narcissistic thing imaginable. As far as I'm aware, the previous pope is the only one that seemed to realise that.Or at least the only one to ever publicly declare anything of the sort. The pope needs to exercise a bit of humility.
The church of England is still sort of catholic but the pope himself doesn't have any direct influence so you're right that he doesn't affect my life.I don't see how that's relevant though. The stance of the catholic church on homosexuality as a moral evil doesn't affect my life.Nor does its stance on contraception or the comments the pope made about condoms aggravating the HIV/AIDS problem before he caved and made the exception. But those things bother me nonetheless for obvious reasons.
The pope is God's representation on earth, representation being the important word. He is the leader of the church. He doesn't claim to be God or equal to God.
And I can understand why they bother you. But that's why you're not catholic, so you don't have to follow the catholic church's beliefs and the pope. Problem solved.
The phrase 'god on earth' and other similar phrases that imply the same thing have been said many times over the years. But that's not really important. We're just splitting hairs.
Not being obligated to follow any of it doesn't solve anything. It harms other people and I care about that.
None of that has anything to do with why I'm not a catholic.Finding something abhorrent has no bearing on whether or not I find it to be true.I'm not a catholic for intellectual reasons, not emotional ones.I get what you were driving at though.

and yeah
it's mind-blasting
Is that for real or is it some sort of joke/analogy that's going over my head?
no it's real
it's so crazy it sounds fictional
but I saw it on 20/20
Wow.That's insane.Do you remember any other info that might help me find it? Googling key words of the story is getting me nowhere.

Well I respect your opinion then.
