The past doesn't exist anywhere but in our minds and in written records, which are both fallible. So, when people say the past can't be changed, they're wrong. The past can change as long as your mind is legitimately believing the new information you're given. The past is as abstract as the future, maybe even more so.

What happened in our past will never change. Our minds may get that information wrong, or mixed up, but it doesn't change what actually happened. It just leads us to false illusions of what we think happened.

But who's to say what actually happened? The past doesn't actually exist anywhere so there's no way to prove ANYTHING. You can, essentially, change it because there's only one way to verify it. With your mind or with past records- both of which can be changed. If, purely for sake of argument, Caesar never existed? He's a product of imaginative historians. He's just a name. We very well could have merely poofed him into existence and he's just as real to us now, as you and I will be in 2000 years. The past can be manipulated.

We can change our perceptions, but not the facts. However, we don't really know the facts, since we only know them through our perceptions.

People like to say they control their futures, correct? But the fact of the matter is that what happens happens. It is what it is. You're headed towards a future that.. well that really isn't alterable if you think about it enough. But we still believe that we have control. The past is the exact opposite. We have complete control over the past because what is the past, if no what made us who we are today? And if we all come to a general consensus that one certain thing happened and had a hand in forming who we are, then it happened.

the past occurred

even if our memories skew the reality of what happened

the one objective past already happened regardless of whether or not we changed it in our minds
