Stereotypes are part of a natural cognitive process. They allow us to assume what is likely to be true about other people. Of course, many times we are wrong as a result, so we cannot rely only on stereotypes to judge a person, but it has been shown that you can often get an accurate sense of someone's personality from just observing them and their behaviors for a short amount of time.
