Should democracy as traditionally understood be applied to all states?

Am thinking of the Arab spring and the call for democracy in many of the states that revolted. Should we expect democracy to be applied as traditionally understood "rule by the people, for the people, of the people" or can we accept a hybrid taking into consideration the political culture and history of the country?

You are confusing democracy with our republic. At it's lowest denominator, democracy is basically mob rule when it's the majority that run everything.
