Unrealistic voter expectations are a major (perhaps the major) cause of disappointment with politicians in government
Leaving aside cases of actual fault (i.e. sleaze or corruption), one factor in voter disappointment with politicians in government (irrespective of party) often overlooked is the unrealistic expectations of voters themselves. Seen from the private perspective of a hypothetical President or Prime Minister, voters could be regarded as a bunch of moaning ingrates who expect everything to be fixed to their unreasonable satisfaction, yesterday and at no additional cost. Is this true and, if so, to what extent do voters need to toughen up and saddle up?
