Should government be responsive to the governed or as some Senators have told people most people are to stupid to understand government?

In these last elections some congressional folks told people that they were stupid and that only the congress person could understand the issues and make decisions that impact the nation. Many of them found out they were wrong and lost their jobs. Is the average person really to stupid to understand the complex issues of running a country and only politicians are the elite that can do it right?

You bet the government should be responsive to 'we, the people'. That's the whole problem - they think they aren't and while some people are to stupid to understand government, most of us understand it all to well. DC needs a good house cleaning to get rid of the mind-set that is so prevalent. I see plenty of people in DC who are way to stupid to be there, and yes, stupid people elected them. For a congressman to think the island of Guam is going to tip over is outrageous.
