Should we recycle "half" of plastic waste and save the rest in designated plastics only landfills to be mined later?
First, there is this catastrophe called “The Great Pacific Garbage Patch", millions of tons of floating plastic waste that wasn't captured and recycled that will eventually end up in the bellies of phytoplankton in all the worlds oceans. These tiniest of organisms are a major part of the planet's respiratory system, sequestering CO2 in our oceans.
Second, since plastics are byproducts of fossil fuels that will become more scarce as we compete for whats remaining,
should we consider saving the bulk of plastic waste like an insurance policy to be mined for future use?
