We need to stop using the term "tolerance," and begin using the term "acceptance."
In relating to other cultures, race, religion, ethnicity and sexual orientation, the term "tolerance" has been used very heavily as a supposedly good thing, however I think it has a very sinister hidden insinuation.
The term "tolerance" implies that we don't approve of you, but we will grudgingly put up with you until you disgust us too much. (Subconsciously allowing our prejudices to keep their hold on us.) The term "acceptance" says what our aspirations are in respecting and valuing you as a fellow human being. (Subconsciously affirming and reinforcing good will toward our fellow beings.)
What do you think?
