Grandmothers are the repository of information and stories about how to manage resources and relationships.
I want to use the metaphor of the newly discovered information about the role of the matriachs of the elephant herd in India and the impact ivory poaching is having on the elephant population. By removing the older female elephants the younger female elephants are in danger of not being able to nurture the newborn to maturity. It is having a detrimental impact on the whole ecosystem. Look at the role elephants play in the management of insects let alone anything else. Mother Nature does not permit anything unhelpful to survive. What insects use elephant dung and what might that do for other insects. Are they biting insects or pollinating insects. Humankind's insecticides contaminate water, fish, crops and ultimately people through the cumulative toxic effects.
