What does it say about women who keep their maiden name, change their name, or hyphenate their name?

Is it related to women in the professional field or does it lead back to the Women's Rights Movement in the early 1970's. According to several studies, more women in the 1970s and 1980s kept their maiden names where there was a drop in the 1990s and 2000s. A study done by the journal Social Behavior and Personality in 2009 found that only 18% of women were keeping their names. In early 2004, the NYT found more professional women changing their names.

That should be up to them, the name change is old fashioned and outmoded.
