Why haven't we started building the necessary parts for the space-based solar power stations?
It's been proposed for years and it seems a renewed interest has awoken an old idea. The techs here and considering the importance, I doubt anyone could argue reasonably that there isn't enough money in the US or European governmental budgets to get the ball rolling. Considering the current ecological damage climate change is producing and the obvious need for clean energy everywhere, I am genuinely surprised it hasn't been built yet. I'd like to know the following:
1) What are the current problems with this system
2) When are we going to be able to build the plants in space
3) Why haven't the world governments regarded it as urgent
