What adverb could be used when someone takes the blame of something he/she didn't do? (he/she did this because he/she is a kind person and is friendly enough to cover up for the guilty one)

I am writing a book review about a story called The Secret of Castle Cant and I am describing how the main character, Lucy Wickwright, always takes the blame when Pauline (Esmeralda Simone-Thierry von Cant) does something bad...
