I hate most pop music. I hate religion. I hate idiotic people. Doesn't mean I'm one of the people who will constantly complain about shit I hate (I only did so now to make a point)

If people would read my EXPLANATION it would show the frame of mind and context from which I made the post. Several of the comments do NOT take in to account my explanation and have missed the entire point of the post. But nothing surprises me on this site. The bias and intolerance level on here is incredible.

I am intolerant of hate. I admit that. I believe hate is always wrong. Unless you are using the word hate to mean something else. I get that some people say "I hate bananas" but is that really hate? If someone brought you a banana would you KILL them? or would you say No-thanks? In my book "no-thanks" is not hate. Hate to me means you would vehemently oppose with red-face and raise voice and sweaty brow and violent outburst, tantruming, running, fighting, killing etc. etc. Pushing a plate of banana pudding aside and making retching sounds is not hate. Demeaning the offerer, pounding your fists, storming out while causing property damage, that is hate. If you do that - you are a hater. People who use the word hate in a lesser sense are simply trying to fool themselves into thinking that hate can be justified. It cannot.

The definition for hate is an "intense or passionate dislike." It can be directed toward a person or a thing. The dictionary definition for hater is "a person who greatly dislikes a specified person or thing; a negative or critical person." Some people who truly hate something would never ever display the red face or raise their voice. Hatred is silent and kept within [since it is an emotion]. Some people are full of hatred but it is never displayed. Others display their hatred openly by action and word. My post got "hated" on by some purely because they do not agree with my premise: That you can dislike a person or thing (moderately or to some degree) WITHOUT actually being a true hater. I can "hate" the clothing that a person is wearing at a specific time without hating the person or clothing. I can hate a movie or song without being a hater of movies or songs in general and as a whole. The problem in our culture today is that everyone is busy isolating each and every word, action, and instance and then over generalizing and lumping ALL words or actions in to one giant category of "don't do or say." My goal is to draw attention to inconsistencies and hypocrisies that I observe on a daily basis. I have never been one to go along with the flow or status quo. I question everything and reserve the right to think independently - without being spoon fed by those who would assume I must see things exactly as they do or wish me to.

Honestly, I don't know who is harder to reason with you or Viczinc. He says words are meaningless and then goes on to use them all! You say words have whatever meaning suites you! Seriously freespeech, 13 year olds and skinheads say "hate." "Hate" is full of connotations and implications, hatred stirs up strife. Why would anyone use a sledgehammer when flyswatter would suffice?

by Anonymous 9 years ago

Why are you trying to "reason" with me or Vic? What you really mean is convince us to see things your way. Why do I have to see things your way to be acceptable or credible? What do you say about words? Unless you are a linguistics expert, you undoubtedly do not have a corner or market on every implication of every word in the English language [not to mention the roots and various languages many of our words are derived from]. I specifically provided you with definitions of the actual words HATE and HATER, and went out of my way to explain the context and mind frame from which I intended my post. And yet you are still taking me to task. Am I to feel insulted or shamed by your remark about 13 year olds and skinheads? You will have to try much harder if you wish to convince me. And if you don't wish to see the post the way I posted it, then say so and move on. For you to try and tell me that I did not mean or intend what I know I did [it was in my head and not yours], is absolute balderdash.

Whoa! How did I get into this? And I never said words have no meanings, I said humans cannot communicate with words (nor otherwise). That does not mean we should stop trying. It is our only option, regardless of how poorly it works. And this is a great example. Hate means something very different to me than it does to OP. This (and every other post) pretty much proves my point. If we **could** communicate than everyone would know what OP meant and we would all agree with him because he is //human// and __humans have good intentions__ but language and some words (like hate) are so charged with emotion that they muddle communications and you end up in //this// discussion.
