Hurt me with the truth but never comfort me with a lie...
Honesty is always the best policy!
In the long run,
the unpleasant truth
comforting lies are nice
I can see your point... :)
Pretty sure I could use a good lie right about now...
Yea I am fantastic :)
I wrote that back on 6/8
I wasn't alive back in 68. Otherwise I would have seen Jimi Hendrix live. :)
Haha I meant June 8th
I know. :)
lol just checking
And um, lies ARE lies. If they were ever true, they'd be called truths.
I have a bunch of donuts. Nevermind. I ate a few. Though I still have a bunch left! Ok, just a few. That's still a bunch in comparison to none! :p :)
That's you adding your opinion into it. Someone could interpret a "bunch" as 6 while another person 10.
A truth is different for every person but in formal terms, it's a fact. If you said you had SOME donuts(as in more than one), you'd be truthful. I just had an argument with some guy about this. He wasn't very bright and didn't realize that truth and fact were synonymous. He also kept adding his completely biased opinions to the conversation. We were having an argument(instead of debate) about DBZ(famous anime) btw. If it matters. XP
A lie is, well, not truth/fact. As I pointed out, individuals could describe a "bunch" differently. But if you said that you had NO donuts, you'd be lying. That's where it starts to hurt people; when you try and cherry pick what you want to say from a situation and add your own feelings to it, instead of first explaining all that really happened. Perhaps then you can give your input, if needed.
I'll take the truth
I rather take the pain now rather than get hurt by the lie later
I totally agree fuzala!
Yeah, save the happy up
Something to look forward to
I had 23 years of lies, the more he got away with, the bigger & more frequent the lies became, you just get sick & tired of it after awhile.
I'm glad you're free of him
They are always better than a lie.
Not always. Have you somehow put yourself into every situation that calls for the truth or a lie? If you're in Nazi Germany when those scummers are rounding up Jews to murder, do you tell the truth when they ask you where the Jews are? People are idiots when they're so arrogant to think everything is cut and dry.
It always happens the other way around for me. :)
In the long run
I'm going for the truth because I wanna tackle the pain right now rather than having to deal with it later
In the short term
I'm looking for the lie because at the moment
it'll feel nice
I usually delay gratification and am not a fan of instant gratification
The funny thing is half the time they are.
Well, when you lie to someone, you let them go on believing something that could hurt them and those around them. The truth may hurt, but one can wise up and move past it. No one ever said life was easy or kind to us.
haha. good point.
How about finding a way of telling her without being so blunt?
Like, that style doesn't showcase your beautiful eyes? Or, I'm not crazy about how it is done. I'll pay for you to get it done again. Be nice about it.
No, telling a woman her hair is "horrible" is harsh and would rightfully get you slapped. Find a helpful solution. A friend of mine did ask if I liked her dress and I told her that there were other that I thought looked better on her. She laughed because she knew I was trying to be kind. Like someone else said on here that if there is no way to change it, then go ahead a use a white lie.
it depends. if i have only one dress and no way to get a new in time, i would rather hear "you look nice, don't worry" than "you better go naked than with that dress"
Unpleasant truths are better.
Sometimes the lie is the best choice. Alzheimer's patients need to be lied to; trust me on that one. You just tell them what makes them happy.
that's different, I think we are talking about the average person. I know about that, my grandma had it & my mom is gotten really forgetful since her stroke last year.
I agree with that to a point but with my spouse/bf, it's total honesty or it's over, I lived with lies much too long with my ex, I hate liars!
I opt for truth.
I always have. The older I get.. Comforting lies don't seem as bad. :)
to be honest, unpleasant truths. The truth can hurt sometimes, but it is better to tell it than sugarcoat it.
I'll take unpleasant truths. It hurts more to figure out those comforting lies were well...lies...and that you weren't worth the truth. :/
Unpleasant truths. It may sting at first, but it's certainly less devaluing to the self than a lie.
if only more people would realize this!
I'd rather know the truth. The truth comes out eventually.
it sure does & the longer the lie, the more mad you are about it, doesn't make you forgive them that's for sure, makes everything worse!
I know we all say we want the truth, but a lot of the times, we just go by "ignorance is bliss" We're so busy that we put it off until later. It's also scary hearing the unpleasant truth. Like you don't wanna believe that so and so is cheating on you or that so and so is betraying you. You don't wanna think about it because you'll know there's immediate pain involved. It takes a lot of strength to rip off that band aid and face reality.
In shorter words, we say we want the unpleasant truth over the pleasant lie, but easier said than done
The truth no matter how hard it is. But it can be done kindly and with grace most of the time.
Unpleasant truths, because even though the truth might hurt, it's always better than to tell a lie.
Both corrode, eventually, so neither
Truth all the way!
Depends on the truth.
depends on the situation, and who you are talking too , Of course
unpleasant truths. it may hurt at present but it can also promote growth in the long ride unlike lies that can just hurt more if revealed.
I prefer unpleasant truths.
I mean, sure, a comforting lie will make me feel better. But, if anyone wants any sort of successful relationship with me (friendship, dating, etc) then it would be in their best interest to always be honest. 100%, no bullshit.
I guess cause it is you I will let it slide...this time. :)
Unpleasant truths. It sucks, and there's always the "ignorance is bliss" concept, but once you find out the truth, there's never any going back.
Unpleasant truths. I'd rather deal than be lied to.
Neither Tis better to find somebody who doesn’t need to lie. Because the truth won’t hurt.
Nazi soldiers:" are you hiding any Jew?" you: "No.
Good lie right there.
The pot calling the kettle black.
Sometimes, If you don't lie, you're evil scum. Simple.
You left out the word "sometimes" to make me look as bad as you possible can. Twisting words like the media.
Who did I direct the word at? Anyone who would refuse to lie when it's the only right thing to do.
Unpleasant truths. The truth we can handle
Depends - sometimes you need one or the other.
What most people here continue to not understand is that the answer to this question changes according to the circumstance. They just answer in the zombie like manner in which they feel best about themselves. They mostly seem to worry most about what others think of them. Selfish.
