OJ's Bronco ride
Princess Di's funeral.
The moon landing ... I was awestruck and glued to the set.
Thank You for sharing the video.
JFK's funeral and
the moon landing
both stand out
I would also nominate
ripping up the pope's picture on SNL
(I hear the footage has been destroyed by NBC)
Honorable mention: the last scene
in the final episode of Newhart
it caught 30 million American views totally off guard
Very good choices
I did see that live. I couldn't believe my eyes!
The space shuttle Challenger disaster. Even more so than 9/11 only because I actually saw it on tv as it happened. 9/11 was a different for me only because it was much later before I was able to get in front of a tv to see what was going on.
I remember I was about 8 when the Challenger disaster happened. My parents sat me down to explain the whole situation.
It was horrible. I was in college and it was on live tv. I was coming down the escalator into the student union, just watching it as it happened. It was so quiet in that room, it was deafening.
It was horrible. My parents let me stay home that day so I could see the event that day. I can say it has been one I have never forgot.
I agree, that had to have been just awful for family, most of them right there near the launch pad. I remember watching it and just like you said, I had no idea exactly what I was looking at...if it was something that was supposed to shed off the exterior or not. But once that explosion happened, it really sent a jolt thru our collective systems. It was such a sad day.
That was such a sad event.
I remember my mama sharing stories about that event.
Watching the Challenger blow up.
I'm sorry you had to witness that. I knew one of the passengers.
Yes. Unfortunately, it was.
I don't really watch a lot of tv,nothing really stuck out..
Oh that was. I remember I was just leaving work that day. The radio kept cutting in and out & I couldn't figure out why. As soon as I got to my mama's house to pick up my daughters I saw it on the TV. My mama was holding the girls & in tears.
My brother was in PA about 10 miles from where that plane crash because he was traveling for work. I was in a panic because it took 12 hours before we could make contact with him.
It sure was.
Yes. Unbelievable. Good call.
