Apparently it's #bringyourbible day on Twitter, and everyone's all for it. But if it were #bringyourquran day, there would be never ending outrage, amirite?

Bringyourbible on Twitter is encouraging children to bring their bibles to school in order to promote religious freedom within schools. But it seems like whenever people talk about religious freedom, they really mean Christian freedom.

The group of people who are set on keeping religion in schools are the same group of people who would go absolutely crazy if their children were being taught about the Quran, or any other religious text besides the bible. You can't cater to one religion and ban the others.

If you want religion in schools, good for you. But it has to be RELIGION, not just Christianity. And if you are so unhappy with that, send your kid to a Christian school. #ReligiousFreedomForAll-NotJustChristians

It's not about the bible in particular. I have nothing against Christianity. I was raised as a Christian, I went to Catholic school and have read the bible many times. Christians have a right to their beliefs and to practice those beliefs. But it seems that many believe that their beliefs should be given preferential treatment. Bring your bible to school day is not targeting religious freedom, it is targeting freedom for Christians. If this weren't the case, they would be encouraging you to bring your Quran, bring scriptures from Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, etc. You can't promote one religion within schools while ignoring the countless others. If you're going to insist that God be in the pledge of allegiance and Christianity have a place in schools, then you can't get mad when your children are being exposed to other religions as well. I'm not outraged over the bible or Christianity, I'm outraged that so many people think their beliefs hold more value than others. How could anyone insist that their religion belongs in schools, but no other religion does? That is simply disrespectful and discriminatory to the beliefs of others.

The Bible never convinced uncivilized cave dwellers to crash planes into buildings and suicide bomb buses and night clubs.

@KristenGuruLynn The Bible never convinced uncivilized cave dwellers to crash planes into buildings and suicide bomb buses and night...

Have you ever read the bible? Because if you had, you would realize that the bible is just as violent as any other religious text.

"If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives." (Leviticus 20:13 NAB)
A man or a woman who acts as a medium or fortuneteller shall be put to death by stoning; they have no one but themselves to blame for their death. (Leviticus 20:27 NAB)
However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT)
If within the city a man comes upon a maiden who is betrothed, and has relations with her, you shall bring them both out of the gate of the city and there stone them to death: the girl because she did not cry out for help though she was in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbors wife. (Deuteronomy 22:23-24 NAB)

Of course most sane people would recognize that these things the bible talks about are not okay, but there are religious extremists in any religion, who would take things like this out of context and think that this is what their God wants them to do. To say Islam is the only religion that causes violence is absolutely absurd. Religion as a whole causes violence.
