I'm not about to expect everyone else to treat their parents as I treat mine. There's all kinds of relationships out there - different lives, different people. Not everyone is the same. While some parents might see that as an insult, others might not. And I can think of a lot worse things to tell my parents besides calling them by their name.

It depends on the parents and kids. Most kids need the support of a familial terms. It's not something to punish a kid over.

I've called my dad by his name since I learned to talk thank you very much. If he had a problem with it, he had plenty of time to train me a long time ago. Also, we think it stuck with me because his name is 'Danny' and I heard everyone else call him that.

Most people would consider that disrespectful, but there are a lot things that offspring can say that are hurtful.

I can think of a lot more things you can call parents that are very disrespectful. Depending on the parents, if they don't mind being called by their first name then it is not disrespectful.

Perhaps in American culture. In European culture it is not so out of the ordinary.

Worst thing. Not by a long shot - it just seems rather disrespectful.

In general, yes. There are times when it is allowed though. I told my daughter when she was little that if we got separated in a store, to call out my first name. I explained to her that just about every woman in there went by Mom...but chances of there being multiple Karen's was slim.

No, I'm sure that's not the "worst" thing. It could undoubtedly BE intentionally disrespectful, but often it is not.

Just a name, nothing disrespectful or bad about it. I find it quite ridiculous that people are actually bothered by this. In my eyes, the worst thing any offspring could verbally do to their parents is calling them "Idiot" rather than using their name. If I were to have any children of my own, and they called me by my first name, I would feel loved. It would mean they cared enough about me to actually memorize and say my name, rather than simply calling me "father" or "dad".
