I am not thirsty nor cold nor hungry nor lonely. I do not live in fear. I am neither rich nor do I want to be; I have what I need. I have a job that I enjoy, I have a car that I drive and a roof over my head. I see others who do not have what I have. I am happy to pay taxes so that they may also eat, sleep and give up their fear. My taxes also help slaughter people who disagree with my government. I do not approve, and yet I understand that I don’t choose where my taxes get spent, that decision is made by a democratic process and I am happy to participate for the good of the many. I pay taxes because I want to help others. I want to feed the children, to house the indigent, to care for the infirm. I cannot do this on my own because I work, so I pay taxes in the hope that money will benefit the many and not only the few.
