Yes it is sad.
The ignorence of chasing profit will destroy us all.

Carlas avatar Carla Agree +2Reply

Very sad, and I'm afraid that will happen under the Trump administration.

Hey Carla: IMO it's not going to go that far.
Before all the trees are cut down, more will be planted. Onaccounta forester's need a continued supply. ........................... Same thing with all the animals. We have maintained herds for centuries. ............... Vital resources like water and air will be maintained onaccounta their vital. .............. So be concerned, but not more than necessary. 😀

Ain't that the truth!

Basic concepts sometimes come rather quickly to me. The failure of money as food is one of those concepts.

Interesting...

are you ready to give up electricity now? why not? love your computer or phone of which you used to type that comment too much? ready to make your own tools, your own clothes, live off the land? actually, wait, sorry you cannot make tools, that would be using natural resources, and GASP, thats a terrible thing, well, GOOD luck in winter. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

If the Cree prophecy comes true, it will be because there are too many people on Earth. This is the REAL hockey stick:

And how many of us are willing to give up our First World standard of living, or indeed perhaps our lives, for the sake of saving the planet? Not many, I bet.

I read that the growth rate has declined. There is still populatiin growth. But since the , i think 1965 that growth has continued to slow.

Dont know the solution.
But as we do grow, we certainly need to care for our environment as much as possible

You are right, the growth rate has declined since the 60s, so instead of the world population doubling in 35 years, it took about 45.

But the basic problem won't be solved until the world population growth rate becomes NEGATIVE, to the point where the human population drops to about 1 billion, a number the Earth can sustain indefinitely, according to something I read somewhere.

Most of the advanced countries already have negative fertility rates among their native populations. This raises the very politically incorrect question of which other countries are going to have to reduce their birth rates, if the overpopulation problem is to be solved.

And yes, by all means, let's protect the environment as much as possible, but windmills and solar panels are not likely to be sufficient for the task.

Not all little things. Some of them turn out to be a net waste. Solyndra and biofuels, for example.

Ive known for a while that biofuels are as damagong as the fosdil fuels.

Corn is a huge crop in my state.
Huge fields, many of which go unharvested. Tax credits, tax losses.

Windmills and solar and water power is,a proven technology. Implemented successfully in many places

It is only in the last few years that solar panels started producing more energy over their usable lifetimes than it took to manufacture them in the first place. And the jury is still out on their environmental impact.

http://news.nationalgeographic....ility-ranking/

Furthermore, without the tax credits, few people would buy solar panels. That means a significant part of their true (hidden) costs are being borne by the taxpayers.

Certainly hydroelectric is a proven efficient technology, implemented for the better part of 100 years, provided of course that the location is suitable for the dam that is generally required.

As for windmills, again, location is significant. I remember the project to erect a windmill farm offshore from Hyannisport that the great environmentalist, Teddy Kennedy, vociferously opposed, for obvious reasons. biggrin smilie

The only current technology that has a ghost of a chance of making a very significant dent in our use of fossil fuels is nuclear power.

And we all know what most liberals (except in socialist Sweden) think of nuclear power. "Hell no, we won't glow!"
