As fun as it sounds, I kinda value my life so I think I will have to pass.
No. I might have tried it back in the 50's ... we used to pick up hitchhikers all the time when I was a kid. But the world is a different place now. My friend was murdered (just for sport) trying to get home from his Naval base to visit his grandma.
Just now...doesn't seem like a healthy idea.
In California you have maybe one chance in a hundred of getting picked by a murderer, and they only kill people they are paid to kill. So just be cool. You are more likely to get picked up by a fruit than a nut. The rest of the country is safer than that.
I have hitch hiked a lot in California, as far north as Seattle, and twice from Arizona to Ohio and back. The biggest problem is where to sleep between rides. Near Portland, OR a chilly windstorm blew in, so I sneaked into somebody's wood house and slept there.
Have you gotten many people willing to stop and allow you to get in?
Because I feel like that would be the hardest part, getting people to stop and let you join them.
I did my traveling forty years ago when hitchhiking was a normal method of travel. I don't know what the scene is now.
Yeah I could be completely wrong, but I just don't see many people stopping for above average sized guys, much less picking them up in today's scene.
Again, I could be wrong, and different areas could have different amounts of people stopping.
Yeah I thought about it, but I doubt it reality it would work... because there have been so many warnings about not picking up hitchhikers.
Thought about it in a hypothetical-but-not-happening way yea. Odds are I'd get arrested for "vagrancy" or raped/murdered.
Sure, I'd love to get into some stranger's car and get my kidneys stolen
