In my opinion, it's cozier in the dark, and easier to concentrate on what is primarily an emotional and tactile experience.

The pixie dust does generate a glow, however.
Pixie dust not only glows, but it tingles, much to the participants' pleasure.
Of course... Gentle lighting is always more attractive...and some can make things look bigger... I hear...

I like the visuals. All senses are important.
I kinda want to see what I'm doing
I perfer to make love no matter the lighting :P :) ... but a nice soft lighting where there is enough to see but not bright can be awesome. :D
The ambient lighting tends not to be important at the time.
