You really want the military patrolling streets?
The military is trained to kill the enemy. Police have a different mission.
Bud, Remember that the National Guard also has a peacekeeping mission in times of emergency and can be called out by the governors. (I don't want them out there all the time but they are a good asset to have when the police just aren't enough)
Yes, of course. I got the impression the OP was talking day to day law enforcement.
Active duty military could not participate anyway. In the United States, a federal statute known as the Posse Comitatus Act forbids the use of the United States Army, and through it, its offspring, the United States Air Force, as a posse comitatus or for law enforcement purposes. A directive from the Secretary of Defense prohibits the use of the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps for law enforcement.
Thanks Jim! Good information. I guess they knew that military and law enforcement are two different animals.
You are welcome Bud. A lot of people think the military would be turned against them by this or that administration. Can't happen the way it is set up.
Makes perfect sense.
Our military should not be stretched so thin. Troops should be on the boarders.
While we do need some troops in other countries, if for nothing else, to have a base of operations, such as an air-force base as a staging area for planes in response to an event.
I don't like the fact that our military is spread so thin that some soldiers are spending over 50% of their time in combat over the past 12 years or so. That much time in combat takes a toll.
Equipment is so scarce that in Basic Training, soldiers are doubling up on things like gas masks, and other essential gear.
I would love it if we would put a Division along our borders. (North and South.)
You are so right. When Obama pulled us out of Iraq, he left all our equipment and vehicles there for Iraq.... which ended up in the hands of ISIS.
This war has gotten old, and too many politicians have gained from it financially. (On both sides)
When you win a war, you have to finish the job and insure it stays won. We occupied Japan and Germany and did they every even try to raise arms against us?
American soldiers have no business amywhere but America unless we are literally under attack. I feel like this sense of danger or our American values being under attack is complete and utter bullshite.
This Trump fellow wants to increase military funds and law enforcement which is utterly unnecessary. Spending all this money on things that kill and oppress.
So you are saying that law enforcement, kills and oppresses, and doesn't serve and protect?
As to needing more money for the military, only someone with an actual understanding of the military can understand why.
Do I take it then that you are completely against NATO, and other such alliances, since the whole idea behind it is a joint agreement to protect each other? Without having some forces in an area and the means to bring in more, that area is vulnerable to attack or take over (ex Kuwait in 1990)
Since you think the military does not need the funds, and should be operating using equipment and vehicles that are older than 90% of the publics vehicles, I'm curious where you think this money should be spent.
I believe the money should be put into protection of our country in our country instead of sending drones over killing innocent people as well as Isis members or whatever the hell.
Law enforcement has enough power the majority of stuff you DON'T see on the news is police brutality and cops murdering innocent people
