Honestly, DW...I don't fucking care. I know you have lived in sketchy areas, as have I...bottom line - in my experience - is that people mostly treat me as I treat them. I figure that's fair.
I never get tired of people bitching. I learned a long time ago, what some call 'bitching' or 'complaining' or 'whining' I call 'being alert'.
I take those people and put them in the tower. They are the watchmen.
I understand that to them a candle might look like a forest fire, but I also know that an out of control candle can become a forest fire.
When the watchmen shouts 'fire' I am alert for potential problems and I can react more quickly,
The biggest disservice to human kind is the innapropriate moral of 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf'. It tells us
-ignoring a warning sign is a practical approach to making life easier for yourself
-don't say anything until the problem is right in your face because it is better to keep your worries to yourself than bother someone else and
I have discovered that we are safer when we investigate each warning sign with an open mind and that sometimes "wolf" might actually mean "I have problem that I haven't identified and I need your help to figure it out a solution".
Yup. Last count was almost 800 murders in Chicago last year. Oh.. you probably weren't referring to that.
