When I was a Catholic they often talked about their shortage of priests.. but that's looking at only one side of the equation. Perhaps there are simply too many Catholics that want to go to mass.
I think they have found out that some of the things they adhered to, didn't make a whole lot of sense. I grew up with a catholic family, they couldn't eat meat on Fridays, how silly is that, now they can. Birth control, most Catholics use some form of BC, which used to be a deadly sin.
That's more important. I've been friends with quite a few Catholics and have attended many of their rites and programs. The women used to have to wear hats or some type of head covering, not sure if they do that anymore. I went to confession with my friend and she threw a hankie on my head before I could enter her church. lol lol
I'm struggling right now. I belong to a large church, with over 2,000 members, but I prefer a smaller church. And they have changed so many things that I love and grew up with, therefore, I have to make myself go to church anymore. And that's not good.
I think the Catholic Church is looking into changing one of its long-standing religious traditions to remain relevant. If having "larger flocks" is all about the money, then most major religions are all about the money.
I think the Pope said the church should "consider" allowing married men to serve as priests. Nothing has been decided.
There are two kinds of laws/rules/ beliefs in the Catholic Church. One is dogma. One is doctrine. Dogma can not be changed. Doctrine can be changed.
Celibacy is doctrine. There was a time, centuries ago, when popes, bishops, priests, etc...could be married. In fact there were over twenty Popes who were married.
No, the celibacy of Catholic priesthood has been maintained, and women are not admitted as priests. And considering the many abuse scandals, many questions were and are raised.
Everyone knows the devil is in the Vatican...hes been there for a minute now..lurking. Its a sign of the times and guess whats coming? Gay priests! You watch...
A Catholic priest cannot marry after becoming a priest. A married man who converts to Catholicism can become a priest. So can a married Catholic man whose wife dies. The issue is not "married priest," but rather that a man who has received the sacrament of Holy Orders can not legitimately receive the sacrament of Matrimony.
I agree they should have ONLY married men, the single men are all pediphiles, not that a married man can't be one. Many people I know think that particular church is on the road to their end. I think it is possible with all the troubles those gays caused and continue to cause.
Nothing wrong with gays just it isn't beneficial to the church and the church seems to almost condone the abuse of little boys. I can't forgive that type of action.
God is the God of rightness. One believer and God make a majority. Denominations think they have a better idea, and they need big numbers to make them work.

Priest do more than laymen.

(Lay men, get it!)
Ha!
Maybe.
Unless he prefers other young, unmarried men
I thought the same way. Nasty priests.
I never understood how that became a requisite for priesthood in the first place.
The Catholic Church is changing a lot of things that in the past, they would never have agreed with.
Why do you think that is?
I think they have found out that some of the things they adhered to, didn't make a whole lot of sense. I grew up with a catholic family, they couldn't eat meat on Fridays, how silly is that, now they can. Birth control, most Catholics use some form of BC, which used to be a deadly sin.
Is it changing with the times or throwing out long held beliefs to hold on to parishioners?
No I don't think so. Most Catholics are very devout. Times are changing, and they are too.

That's great, it would be hard to change something that you believed in all your life....

Same here. Sometimes I state my beliefs but I won't argue religion. That's for everyone to decide for themselves.
I would think that "old style" would be the only style.
That sounds an awfull like muslim, are you sure you were at a real church
No muslim. Catholic for sure.
Hmmmm
Yes. But regardless, that is not how the catholic church has always worked.
Is the sacrifice of the beliefs they have held so long, really all about money?
Fewer priests, fewer churches, less income?

All religions evolve to remain relevant as societies/cultures change.

Because they make any laws, that suits them.

those gays? I see...
Nothing wrong with gays just it isn't beneficial to the church and the church seems to almost condone the abuse of little boys. I can't forgive that type of action.
Those priests are not neccessarily gay, they are predators.
They go after young boys because they can shame them into silence.
Gay men are seldom predatory. Or gay women. That is a sterotype.
My intent is not to be unkind, but it is off the cuff comments like that which fuels fiendish fires.
Stereotype.
Carla: I have a good buddy who is a gay teacher, we know the stories people make up so I often go as his date to his work parties.
That is the point.
He shouldnt have to do that
People make up stories because of ill thought remarks such as....
"I think it is possible that with all the trouble 'those gays' caused and continue to cause."
beggars can't be choosers...

It's
Ok because it is not biblical that if you are a priest you must be single. That's a rule humans put not God.
